GSM intercom SIMs • Irish local number on every Gate/Intercom plan

GSM Intercom SIM Cards for Gates, Doors and Apartment Blocks in Ireland

A GSM intercom rings a resident's phone every time a visitor presses the button. That makes it the busiest SIM on most sites, and the one most likely to fail on a prepay card. SimFalcon intercom plans are sized by calls per month, paid for the year and need no top-ups.

How a GSM intercom call works Ready

Visitor presses the button

The intercom calls the resident's phone over the SIM. The resident talks to the visitor and presses a key to open the gate or door. Each press is one call on the plan.

Lightup to ~100 calls
Pro~101–300 calls
High Use300+ calls

Published prices exclude VAT (23%) and are billed annually.

Which intercom SIM plan do I need?

Count roughly how many times a month visitors, couriers and residents use the intercom. Every press of the call button is one call. If the gate only opens when someone rings it and nobody talks, the cheaper Gate Access plan is enough.

Check your intercom before you order

Three things decide whether a SIM will work in your intercom. The manual or the label inside the unit usually answers all three.

Which networks does the intercom support?

SimFalcon voice plans carry calls over 2G and 3G. Most GSM intercoms fitted in Ireland support 2G and work normally. Vodafone switched off 3G in October 2024 and Eir began retiring 3G on 1 October 2026, so a 3G-only intercom will stop calling when 3G ends in its area, whatever SIM is fitted.

If your intercom is 4G-only and calls over VoLTE, send us the model before you order. Our 3G switch-off guide shows how to check.

Does it need text messages?

Most intercoms only need voice calls. SimFalcon SIMs do not send or receive text messages (SMS). If your intercom is set up or reports by SMS only, it needs another way in, such as its keypad, app or PC software. If SMS is the only option, the SIM is not suitable.

Is the signal good at the gate?

Gate pillars, steel enclosures and low ground can weaken the signal. Check the signal on the intercom after fitting, and fit an external antenna if it is weak. A multi-network SIM can use more than one network in Ireland.

Ask for the right intercom plan

Tell us the intercom model and roughly how busy the entrance is, and we will recommend the plan. We normally reply within one working day (Mon–Fri).

Why intercoms fail on prepay SIMs

  • Each visitor call uses credit. A busy week can empty a prepay balance and nobody notices until the gate stays shut.
  • Prepay SIMs can be disconnected if they are not topped up for a period set by the operator.
  • The operator's reminder texts go to a SIM inside a gate pillar that nobody reads.
  • A phone SIM uses one network. If its signal at the gate is weak, calls drop or fail.

Apartment blocks and managed sites

Management companies and installers can keep one yearly invoice per entrance, an Irish number residents recognise and a plan sized for the traffic. Installers fitting several intercoms can keep unactivated SIMs in stock and activate each one on site: see IoT SIM cards for installers.

GSM Intercom SIMs – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best SIM card for a GSM intercom in Ireland?

One that is paid for the year, needs no top-ups, has enough calls for the entrance and can use more than one network. Choose the plan by calls per month: Gate / Intercom Light for up to about 100, Pro for about 101 to 300 and High Use for more than 300.

Can I use a prepay SIM in a GSM intercom?

You can, but prepay credit runs out unnoticed when the intercom rings out every time a visitor presses the button, and prepay SIMs can be disconnected if they are not topped up for a period. Then the intercom stops calling and the gate stays shut.

Does a GSM intercom need SMS?

Most intercoms only need voice calls. SimFalcon SIMs carry voice and data but do not send or receive text messages, so an intercom that can only be programmed or report by SMS needs another way in, such as its keypad, app or PC software. Send us the model if you are unsure.

Will my intercom work after the 3G switch-off?

SimFalcon voice plans carry calls over 2G and 3G. An intercom that supports 2G keeps working; a 3G-only intercom stops when 3G ends in its area. If your intercom calls only over 4G (VoLTE), send us the model before ordering.

Do I get an Irish phone number for the intercom?

Yes. Every Gate/Intercom plan includes an Irish local number, so residents and visitors see a familiar number and the intercom can be rung to open the gate.
