Commercial charge points often depend on communications for OCPP messaging, health status, remote resets, tariff updates, authorisation and operational visibility. Cellular connectivity gives the charger or site router a dedicated path without relying on a nearby office network.

Compatibility check before activation

Some chargers contain their own modem and SIM slot; others use a separate industrial router or gateway. OCPP itself does not determine the SIM plan. We need the charger or router model, platform requirements and deployment size before recommending connectivity.

Do EV chargers need a SIM card?

Not every charger does. Some use Ethernet or Wi‑Fi, while many commercial installations use an integrated cellular modem or a separate 4G/5G router.

Will the SIM work with OCPP?

OCPP is carried over the charger’s internet connection. If the charger or router supports normal IP data and the required APN settings, a managed IoT SIM can provide the cellular path.

Why use multi-network connectivity for EV chargers?

Distributed charging sites can have different signal conditions. A multi-network connectivity can give compatible equipment more available network choices than a single-network SIM.
