Teltonika router APN and SIM setup: RUT200, RUT241, RUT956 and RUTM51

Step-by-step settings for the Teltonika routers SimFalcon sells, taken from Teltonika’s own manuals: the APN, SIM PIN, network type, how to check the connection and what to try when it will not connect.

This guide shows where to enter the APN, SIM PIN and network settings on the Teltonika routers SimFalcon sells in Ireland: the RUT200, RUT241, RUT956 and RUTM51. The steps follow Teltonika’s own manuals for each model [1][2][3][4]. Menu names can change between firmware versions, so if a screen does not match, check the manual for your model and firmware.

SimFalcon gives you the APN to use when the SIM is activated, and our APN setup guide shows it. Do not guess an APN from another provider.

1. Open the mobile settings

In the router’s web interface go to Network, then Mobile, then the General tab. The SIM and APN settings are on this page on all four models [1][2][3][4].

2. Enter the APN

Under Interface mob1s1a1 APN configuration you will see Auto APN. It is on by default, and it picks an APN from the router’s internal database based on the SIM’s operator and country [1]. A SIM on a private or IoT APN is not guaranteed to be in that database, so switch Auto APN off and fill in the fields yourself:

Save and apply the change, then restart the router so it registers again with the new settings.

3. SIM PIN and roaming

The PIN field takes 4 to 8 digits and is stored in the router’s flash memory. Teltonika notes that restoring default settings does not clear it [2]. Only enter a PIN if the SIM has one. Deny data roaming is off by default, which means the router will use data on a roaming network; switch it on only if you want to block that [1].

4. Network type

On the Connection tab, Preferred network type defaults to automatic selection (4G, 3G and 2G on the RUT200, RUT241 and RUT956, and 5G, 4G and 3G on the RUTM51) [1][2][3][4]. The RUTM51 also has a 5G mode setting: Auto by default, NSA or SA [4]. Leave these on automatic unless you are diagnosing a problem. Forcing “4G only” can leave a router with no service at a site where 4G is weak. See our guide to 2G and 3G switch-off dates before locking a router to an older technology.

5. Check that it connected

On the RUT241 the Network operators section shows Active SIM, SIM card state, Current operator, Data connection state, Connection stage and Network type [1]. You are looking for the SIM to be detected, an operator to be shown and the data connection to be up. Then test from a device behind the router by opening a web page. If the status looks right but nothing loads, check the APN first.

6. Two SIMs and automatic switching

Models with a second SIM slot, or a SIM plus an eSIM, have a SIM Switch page. Switching is off by default. When you turn it on, each rule has a Check interval (3 to 3600 seconds, default 30) and a Check count (1 to 10, default 3), and the router switches only if the condition holds on every check [1][3][4]. Conditions include weak signal (default threshold −90 dBm), no network, network denied, data connection failure, roaming and SIM not inserted, and all are off until you enable them [1]. Teltonika’s RUT200 page does not describe SIM switching [2], so do not assume it on that model. If you use two SIMs, check the APN settings for each one. For how failover works and how much data to plan for, see 4G backup internet and failover.

Which router is which?

SimFalcon’s shop lists these models, each with a managed SIM option [5]: the RUT200 (compact 4G), the RUT241 (4G with eSIM and SIM), the RUT956 (industrial dual-SIM) and the RUTM51 (industrial 5G). Our data allowance guide helps you pick a plan for what the router will carry.

Frequently asked questions

What APN do I use on a Teltonika router with a SimFalcon SIM?

Use the APN SimFalcon gives you, which is also on our APN setup guide. Switch Auto APN off, type the APN in exactly, save, apply and restart the router.

Do I need to enter a SIM PIN on the router?

Only if the SIM has a PIN. The PIN field takes 4 to 8 digits, and Teltonika says it is kept in flash memory and survives a factory reset of the settings.

Why does the router show a connection but nothing loads?

Check the APN and authentication type first, then any data limit, then signal quality and the antenna. If you use two SIMs, also check the SIM switching rules.

Can a Teltonika router switch to a second SIM automatically?

Models with a SIM Switch page can, once switching is turned on and a rule is set, for example on weak signal, no network or a failed data connection. Teltonika’s RUT200 manual page does not describe it, so check your own model.
